It’s been a hot minute since I posted on this blog. As expected, I’ve changed a lot since the start, both personally and professionally. I’ve been through the ringer and I’ve had my shining moments, to the point where I think it’s worth revisiting this same type of post through a different (older) lens.
I’ve answered all these questions before, in 2018. Let’s do it again in 2024.
Location: Washington, DC Metro Area
Current gig: multimedia designer (in limbo)
Current mobile device: iPhone 8
Current computer: MacBook Pro (the ol’ girl is still running)
One word that best describes how you work: loyally
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?
Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, Spotify, YouTube. And Scrivener, for personal writing projects.
What’s your workspace like?
More space than before, only because I own a condo (yup!). I sit at a medium-sized desk facing the TV (I like watching videos in the background while I do my work). I actually have two workspaces: one for personal projects and one for professional ones. I still have my Huion Kamvas GT-191 (take care of your electronics and they’ll last long in turn). I also have a fair number of sketchbooks, since I’ve never been able to let go of the pencil-and-paper method.
What’s your best time-saving trick?
Same as before: just sit down and do it. Power through. Block out the time you need and just get it done. Procrastination is the enemy of productivity.
What’s your favorite to-do list manager?
I’m a big fan of ClickUp. Shoutout to my project manager at Lessonbee.
Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without?
Last year I bought an extremely useful kitchen appliance - it’s an oven, toaster, air fryer, broiler…it has 8 functions, need I say more? I work from home and that thing is a godsend.
What everyday thing are you better at than anyone else?
Hey, I think I’m pretty funny.
What are you currently reading?
Among the Living by Tim Lebbon. Slow start, but the genre is my bread and butter.
What do you listen to while you work?
Same as before: soundtracks, YouTube video game commentary & playthroughs. If I’m in the mood, I also like podcasts.
Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert?
Same as before: an introvert, definitely.
What’s your sleep routine like?
Here’s where my age is catching up to me - gotta love being almost 30. I don’t have insomnia, but it takes me a while to fall asleep. I cut off screen time at least an hour before bed to counter this, and I rarely have caffeine past 5pm.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Succeed out of spite if you have to.” Oh, I’ve definitely had to pull this one out a lot. Specifically when it comes to the gym. Get it done, get it done, get it done (with whatever energy source you have at your disposal).
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Live life in the now. (Seriously, it’s true).
