A Daily Post About Anything, a.k.a. Fetch Quest (an introduction)

This is the beginning of a string of daily posts one month long. Expect…content. I don’t do a lot of planning with stuff like this. When I write, it’s with the energy of suddenly realizing that you’ve left the stove on. I’m not going to try and explain myself, things just happen and I go “okay cool.” This is an introductory post - expect there to be a bit more clarification coming.

So after that short intro, I’d like to take a moment to talk about something that’s been a big part of my life for a while: video games.

Why don’t you narrow it down, please?

Now, yes, this is a really broad topic I’m tackling on my very first post of the month. And yes, I can’t possibly go through every little detail about gaming without writing what amounts to a novel each day - there’s so much. Don’t ever step into this much information unprepared. It’s funny to those who aren’t the ones at the short end of the stick, though. Please refer to the gif on the right to understand what the hypothetical experience would be like.

Why “Fetch Quest”?

A “fetch quest” is when you, usually in an RPG, are required to go on a journey of a varying size to retrieve an item, person, or information, and then bring it back to the person who asked for it. A lot of people dislike fetch quests, but I don’t really mind them. I think they’re fun, actually.

RPGs give you multitudes of chances to acquire many many many items. The thing I like about this is that there’s no telling what you might encounter on the way to get the item (well, you have sort of an idea of what you’ll encounter, because it wouldn’t be a “quest” if there weren’t obstacles, enemies, puzzles, etc.) and that is what makes things interesting.

I like it when I get the chance to try out different strategies, use different weapons (like a sword named delicious quinoa, for example), among other extra little side tangents to make things just a bit more interesting.

And herein lies the reason I chose “Fetch Quest” as the title of my series of posts this month. I have an assortment of things to say, things to share, strategies to implement, anecdotes to exposit, among other tips, tricks, and - frankly - opinions that I’m not sure anyone asked for. In other words, I’ll be fetching you posts.

What will you be doing, though?

I’ll be elaborating on various things each day, most of them related to gaming, some of them art, and some of them just things that I find interest in. A bit of a potpourri or sorts.

Sound fun? I think so! Tomorrow I’ll share a little bit about one of my favorite video game genres: horror. It’ll be spooky, I promise.
